At Floor Cure, we recently had the privilege of undertaking a challenging yet rewarding hardwood floor restoration project at the Hull University Student Union Wetherspoons. The scope of the job was extensive, covering approximately 420 square metres, and the university emphasised the need for completion over the Christmas break to ensure a pristine floor for the students’ return.
Project Overview:
The university’s request for a Christmas period completion meant meticulous planning. Before the restoration began, a comprehensive risk assessment and method statement were developed, ensuring a clear roadmap for the project’s execution.
Dust Minimization and Security Measures:
Understanding the university’s concern about dust, our team implemented cutting-edge techniques to keep dust at a minimum throughout the restoration process. Strict security procedures were adhered to, recognizing the sensitivity of the premises. This meticulous approach not only addressed safety concerns but also ensured a seamless restoration without disruptions.
Timely Completion and Cleaning:
The 420-square-metre restoration project was accomplished within a tight timeframe of 6 days. Dedication and precision were key as our team worked diligently to meet the university’s deadline. Half a day was dedicated to meticulous cleaning, ensuring the premises was not only beautifully restored but also ready for immediate use the following day.
Restoration Process:
The restoration involved a multi-step process:
1. Sanding: The existing finish was expertly removed using a combination of drum sanders and edgers.
2. Gap Filling: Wood filler was meticulously applied to address gaps and imperfections, ensuring a flawless finish.
3. Sealing: A high-quality sealant was applied to protect the wood and enhance its natural beauty.
4. Topcoat Application: The final touch involved applying three coats of a heavy-duty topcoat for durability and longevity.
Facilities Manager’s Testimonial: After the completion of the restoration, the Facilities Manager expressed their satisfaction, stating, “Thanks again for your hard work in ensuring the floor was completed on time for our reopening yesterday. The floor looks fantastic, and we are really pleased with it.”
